SAN FRANSISCO — Jan. 19, 2021 —Totara, a leading provider of enterprise learning, engagement and performance management technology, today announced strong customer growth momentum to close out 2020, especially among healthcare organizations. Totara added 44 new healthcare customers in 2020, reflecting high and continuing demand during the COVID-19 pandemic for more robust, adaptable and scalable learning, engagement and performance management solutions.

Despite an aggressive roll-out of life-saving vaccines currently underway across the globe, full vaccine distribution may not be achieved in many countries until late spring or early summer of 2021. As a result, there is growing demand among organizations from virtually every industry to adopt and expand remote learning and training capabilities.

“With the onset of the pandemic, healthcare organizations faced added pressure to increase services, production and research as well as employee and staff productivity at a time when organizations in many other industries experienced a slowdown,” said Richard Wyles, CEO of Totara. “These unprecedented events continue to create daunting challenges for organizations to communicate with, train and support employees at a time they need it more than ever. This is exactly why we created the Totara Talent Experience Platform. We’re thankful that so many organizations are able benefit from the highly adaptable learning, employee engagement and performance management capabilities Totara has to offer, especially during these challenging times.”

As the pandemic spread rapidly and lockdowns ensued, healthcare organizations needed to rapidly expand and launch remote learning and training to support new PPE and infection control protocols to protect medical staff and patients while fighting the infection.

Monash Health is the largest public health service in Victoria, Australia providing safe, high-quality care to one-quarter of the population in Melbourne across the entire lifespan, from pre-birth to end-of-life. With the onset of COVID-19, Monash Health, in cooperation with the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services and the Federal Department of Health, urgently needed to deploy Monash Health’s PPE training for 70,000 residential care workers.

Kineo and Totara provided the anytime, anywhere learning solution aimed at care workers that Monash Health needed. They fast-tracked a six-week implementation into just five days to help combat rapidly rising COVID rates in Victoria. Thousands of residential and aged care workers were able to quickly access online training for COVID-19 PPE and infection control protocols. More than 500 residential care sites quickly accessed these life-saving training programs, with more than 7,500 individual completions of PPE learning content.

“At a time when the COVID-19 pandemic in the state of Victoria was at its worst and residential facilities were under significant pressure, a 5-day turnaround to support that cause with a quickly deployed digital training solution was a great result,” said Linda Neitz, Senior Manager of Organizational Development and Learning | People & Culture, Monash Health.

The Monash Health story reflects many of the near-term challenges health care organizations face as we continue to adapt to the impact and repercussions of COVID-19. The pandemic aside, an increasingly ageing population in the western world combined with a projected shortage of healthcare employees at all levels will continue to challenge healthcare organizations. By 2030 there will be a global shortage of 15 million doctors, nurses, midwives and other healthcare professionals, according to the Global Health Workforce Labor Market Projections for 2030, research study.

“Learning technology that helps organizations rapidly and cost effectively train and upskill employees and staff will continue to play a crucial role in solving the learning, skills gap and talent shortage challenges faced by healthcare organizations, for the near term and for the future,” said Wyles.
