Reskilling is the process of developing and training employees in order to fulfill job functions and tasks outside of their current role and existing skill set. As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, reskilling rose in popularity to sustain operations and supply chains in organizations where extended sick leave, layoffs and furloughs removed employees from their work. Reskilling differs from upskilling in that it involves training learners in a function previously unfamiliar to them in order to meet a new demand.
