Proximity bias is the unconscious tendency to prefer people who are physically closer to us on a regular basis. Because of the increased exposure, we often show a preference for what or whom we see the most often. In the workplace, proximity bias can occur if a manager gives preferential treatment to on-site employees over remote workers, such as more perks, development opportunities or exciting projects. Unconscious bias training can help to mitigate proximity bias and create a more equitable workplace. Also see: Unconscious Bias.
