AUSTIN, Texas — Sept. 3, 2025 — What do you do when one of your team managers talks a good game but their team’s performance is stagnating and morale’s plummeting? Do you step in? Coach? Reassign? Or do you wish you had a practice ground to test your approach before the stakes get real?
On September 3, Abilitie launches Director Challenge, a new simulation-based and AI-enabled leadership development experience built for senior leaders who oversee team managers and orchestrate outcomes across multiple teams and functions.
Where Abilitie’s emerging leader program ‘Management Challenge’ is about learning to lead a team, Director Challenge is about leading the leaders. It’s the difference between being a player on the field and calling plays from the sideline. At this level, leadership isn’t about doing, it’s about amplifying. Participants learn to pull the levers of leadership that drive results, culture, and alignment across a complex organization.
“When we set out to create a simulation for leaders of leaders, we knew the challenge wasn’t simply adding complexity. It was about capturing the shift in mindset — from owning the work to empowering others, from focusing on one team’s output to aligning many teams around the enterprise. Director Challenge is built to help leaders practice letting go of control, building capability in their managers, and making the kinds of decisions that ripple across teams, functions, and organizations.” Andy Rosenberg, Abilitie Director of Learning Programs
In the capstone simulation, participants face a cast of AI-powered team managers — each with their own quirks, blind spots, and growth areas. One might resist delegation. Another might over-index on team climate at the expense of accountability. A third might be brilliant but siloed. Your job? Coach, influence, and guide them toward autonomous, high-impact leadership without micromanaging or losing sight of strategic goals.
It’s a sandbox for senior leaders to practice the messy, nuanced art of leading through others. And it’s sorely needed. Many leaders are promoted for technical brilliance or business savvy, but few are taught how to scale leadership through the people managers they oversee. Director Challenge fills that gap with a safe, immersive environment to build next-level capabilities.
“As a learning programs company that builds and deploys simulations for our clients, we often like to say we ‘manufacture mistakes’. By stepping into immersive rich worlds, our learners are able to gain the wisdom that only comes with experience, gaining real-world skills without real-world consequences.” Luke Owings, Abilitie VP of Product.
Like all Abilitie programs, Director Challenge is facilitator-led and cohort-based, with participants working in pairs to tackle challenges and reflect on key decision points. The experience blends AI-powered learning with the human touch of peer collaboration and expert debriefs; because we believe leadership development should be both tech-enhanced and social.
For organizations, the payoff is real: stronger succession pipelines, sharper strategic execution, and a culture of empowered leadership that cascades across teams.
